Key responsibilities
Ownership of statutory reporting obligations
- Ensure that all statutory deadlines are met across all reporting obligations (statutory accounts, VAT filings and payments, corporation tax filings and payments)
- Review of statutory accounts and tax filings to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Managing the external audit process
- Managing the relationship with external tax advisors
- Proactively working with legal entity Directors to ensure they are equipped with the information needed to execute their responsibilities for external reporting
Oversight of the integrity of financial reporting
- Review and approval of key financial journals (prepared by the Financial Accountant)
- Ownership of key financial reporting controls (including balance sheet reviews, journal reviews)
- Preparation of accounting memos for key areas of judgement (including going concern, impairment review, revenue recognition etc)
- Preparation of accounting entries for high risk / judgemental areas
- Oversight of the consolidation process (multi-currency) and working with FP&A to deliver board reporting
- Ownership of the chart of accounts, period close process and integrity of underlying accounting records in the open Accounts finance system
Supporting the wider business
- Providing line management, coaching and career development support to the Financial Accountant
- Providing technical updates to the rest of the finance team
- Assisting the Head of Finance and CFO with ad-hoc cross-functional projects as required
- Managing the delivery of monthly management accounts for overseas subsidiaries
- Supporting the finance team with queries on financial accounting matters
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to take a problem or issue and construct an appropriate response, including necessary research
- Works well under pressure, delivering to tight deadlines
- Communicates clearly and effectively, with both internal and external stakeholders at varying levels of the seniority across the business.
- Comfortable with key principles of VAT and corporation tax
Qualifications & experience
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Experience within a top 10 audit practice
- A high level of proficiency with MS Excel
- Experience with financial accounting packages is desirable, but not essential
